COLOUR...2017

Color is fundamental in our lives, at least for who is lucky enough to be able to see.

Often times in design and in the fashion industry there are trends that companies and designers are inspired by.

I honestly have always loved color, and used it whether it was in trend or not. My very personal opinion is that a life without color is a sad one, as a house or workspace could be.

It is not necessary to imagine colored walls, because you can have a completely white house and add wooden elements to it (natural color) or flowers or colorful accessories or a few paintings or artwork to warm up what could apparently be an aseptic room.

What counts is harmony. If we analyze ourselves, that’s what we all look for. In our domestic space, where we come back to after an intense day or full or worries and hectic rhythms, it’s important to feel good. Therefore I don’t think this ideal of house in unique, because each and every one of us brings a world of emotions, of memories, of associations that colors necessarily reflect. Some people might find green a calming color, others might needs to wake up and see a warm color. Each color has a symbolic and psychological value. Often times we forget about this or many others, even an insider, don’t know this. Because we chase the scenic effect or an aesthetically beautiful result. But this theme is too challenging to talk about it in one go.

The positive thing about this year’s trend and for 2018 is that color is coming back, with a capital C.

From “Barbie” pink or millennial pink, to “minion” yellow in its warm shades from yellow mustard to turmeric, from blue that tends to a bright turquoise or to purple, color that I passionately love, but often feared by many.

Or the gradients of papaya orange to “burgundy” red or the shades of sage, celery, and avocado green.

I use these names because a pantone number or color chart can result difficult to comprehend. When I associate natural images, the result is immediate. Nature is always source of inspiration and I never get tired of observing and admiring it!

…”and God sowed colors of the earth.”
