INTERIORS WITHOUT BORDERS

Interiors without borders; at the beach, in the mountains, in the countryside or in the city where you can enjoy the scent of vacation.

That’s right, because furnishing in complete freedom, without walls, is easier and it makes us create an ideal space for a table in the countryside, a techno-chic barbecue or a tent with a view on the sea.

In these days my mind takes me back to those places where I left a piece of my heart. Places of travel, of vacation, where I have memories of colors, of details, of decor, or distinctive signs of the culture of that world.

For professional deformation, or maybe it’s simply passion, I associate each place with an imagine of interior design.

It’s essential for me.

I would like to offer you to play with your terrace, your patio, your garden, or any other little corner that can recreate a travel atmosphere. Travelling is wonderful, but as you know, it is not always possible.

A vast production of outdoor furniture exists, but I love commingling, unusual combinations, often times imperfect.

We can use old canopy to make pillows closed with bows or use striped cotton to alternate to floral pillows, to make cushions that you can lay on treated galvanized iron benches made for the outdoors (coated with transparent or opaque paint) or simple wooden pallets painted in grey or white to create a country style.

You can pair these with a runner and position it on vintage iron tables that are typical of the south of France.

If, instead, you want to fly to Cuba or enter a “cabana” in Mexico, we can paint old wooden chairs with fluo colors and mix them around a smooth table and leave it rough. You can organize an informal dinner with colorful rigid plastic plates and raffia or rattan placemats. Imagination shouldn’t be limited here, let yourself go to goy and happiness.

If you want to exaggerate, you can build your stylized “cabana” following the scheme attached.

To create low budget installations hay bales, painted wooden pallets, small ladders and nailed wooden crates can be useful.

The classic chair made out of wooden planks called “Adirondack" bring us to certain american movies that overlook a lake, even though I found them in an isolated beach in Mexico near Belize. Pair them with floral compositions that you can insert in tin cans, old aluminum buckets, or painted terracotta vases that can welcome fat plants recalling the mexican imagery.

A nice book and lovely company will be enough to give you serenity for certain atmospheres.

White paired with light blue or ultramarine brings us to Greece, or Sardinia, or Puglia.

In this case, anything that brings us back to the sea goes inserted. If you want to created a relaxing atmosphere you can add an hammock and a series of swings.

Certain old fabrics can be used to make pillows that can be thrown on small sofas. Even grandma’s old rocking chair can be reused for this cause! Enamelled ceramic fish or decorated plates are mandatory.

Open drawers and go into your basements: here we can find unexpected resources.

Instead, if you want to use modern furniture for a terrace in the city, then there are many available products. I personally enjoy the exotic touch of the line of products Paola Navone drew for Gervasoni.

There are many super techno products, but I will mention just a few that I like: from “Coro” that offers interesting umbrellas, to “Roda” or to the always proactive “B&B Italia” all the way to the sophisticated “Paola Lenti”. Her line of outdoor carpets is unmatched in elegance.

For who has a nomad spirit and a big garden, installing a “Teepee” could be interesting, recalling mongolian steppes and making kids happy. Even an improvised shower in the woods can become an evocative corner. Gauze mosquito nets, folding chairs, and simple decorations are perfect.

Last but not least, I cannot not talk about a hotel in the Galapagos where everything was ecologic and respected nature.

Recreating such situations is a bit complicated, but doable as long as you use not treated natural materials like wood, linen, canopy or organic cotton and avoid all forms of plastic.

And now you can start… using all your imagination! I will be with you!
